NOTIFICATION OF FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME AND SITE LAYOUT FOR DFFE APPROVAL
FOR THE PHEZUKOMOYA AND SAN KRAAL WIND ENERGY FACILITY, NORTHERN AND EASTERN CAPE PROVINCE

On 26 September 2019, both Phezukomoya Wind Power (Pty) Ltd and San Kraal Wind Power (Pty) Ltd (‘the Applicants’) lodged amendment applications with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) in respect of the Environmental Authorisations (EAs) issued on 28 June 2018 for the Phezukomoya Wind Energy Facility (Phezukomoya WEF) and the San Kraal Wind Energy Facility (San Kraal WEF). On 26 October 2021, the EA amendment was granted to both Applicants. On the 17 and 26 November 2021, respectively, corrections to the EA amendment issued on 26 October 2021 was also granted to both Applicants. The amended Phezukomoya and San Kraal WEF are each authorised for up to 35 turbines.
Both Applicants were awarded preferred bidder in the Round 5 of the REIPPPP.
In accordance with the EAs issued, the Phezukomoya WEF and San Kraal WEF EMPr and Site Layout were subjected to the required 30-day public comment and review from Tuesday, 22 February 2022 to Thursday, 24 March 2022 (both days inclusive).
The Public Participation Process took into consideration Chapter 2 and Chapter 6 (41, 42, 43, and 44) of GN R. 326 of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act 107 of 1998) (NEMA) Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, 2014 (as amended), promulgated under Section 24 (5) of the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998 – NEMA), as amended. Comments received from the competent authority, public and organ of states have been incorporated, addressed and responded to in the EMPr and Site Layout.
Following the 30 day public comment and review period, the Phezukomoya WEF and San Kraal WEF Final EMPr and Site Layout were submitted to the DFFE for decision, and is available for the public to view via this Arcus website.
